Scriptwriting residency "QIDEF", Cameroon
(in conjunction with the MIS ME BINGA, International Women's Film Festival)

With the support of the Goethe Institute and the Kamerun ADAMIC (Association des Dames d'Image du Cameroun), the Mis Me Binga Association is organising a writing residency "QUAND L'IDÉE DEVIENT UN FILM 2015" (WHEN THE IDEA BECOMES A FILM 2015) (QIDEF) from 13 to 27 June 2015. It is open to five feature-length fiction projects submitted by women directors of Central Africa.

The authors should be from the following countries: Burundi, Cameroon, Equatorial-Guinea, Congo-Brazzaville, Gabon, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Chad.

A coach, who is also an experienced filmmaker, will work with the authors during the residency. The residency in Yaoundé will be a framework for sharing experiences between film project planners, mentors, producers and broadcasters.

Interested candidates should submit the following documents in French before 30 April, 2015 to the email address: mismebinga@gmail.com: A synopsis, a statement of intent, a scenario, a CV.

RESIDENCY RULES

1. PURPOSE

The residency "QIDEF" aims:
  • To encourage engaging scripts that through their theme and form bring new perspectives to cinema. 
  • To support the emergence of talented filmmakers from countries of the southern hemisphere.
  • To make the "QIDEF" a "label" of quality and rigor.
  • To be a valuable exchange of ideas between scriptwriters from different backgrounds and cultures.
  • By selecting and supporting already developed scripts, and supervising their development within a rigorous schedule, "QIDEF" hopes to provide every opportunity for these projects to find artistic and financial partners.

2. CANDIDATES

Filmmakers are called to present their projects from the following countries: Cameroon, Congo-Brazzaville, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Democratic Republic of Congo, Central African Republic, Chad.

3. PRE-SELECTION

The Organizing Committee of "QIDEF" will choose from the dossier that is presented, the projects to be considered as provided by Article 4 of this regulation.

4. SUBMISSION OF PROJECTS

a) Pre-selection

Candidates interested in participating in "QIDEF" will provide a dossier containing the following:
  • The completed registration form,
  • A synopsis of the film (1-2 pages) in French
  • A scenario in French,
  • A statement of intent (1-2 pages) in French
  • The author’s curriculum vitae,
  • An excerpt from an already made film (short or feature (optional).
Only complete applications will be considered for the selection process.

b) Selected projects:

The selected candidates will be notified by the Organizing Committee of the "QIDEF".

c) Other information:

Only projects whose objective is to be able to compete as feature films for production and distribution should be proposed.

5. FUNCTIONING OF THE WORKSHOPS

Each workshop is supervised and overseen by a screenwriter of renown. The Ad Hoc Committee of the “QIDEF” will select the submitted projects; a maximum of 5 projects will be selected for each workshop.
The sessions will be held for 14 days in Yaoundé, Cameroon. During that time a collective discussion on each scenario will take place, and a working session will be held with the lead screenwriter to examine the best approach for each project.

6. MANDATORY STATEMENT

Authors of the selected projects for the workshop engages to:
  • Include in the credits of the completed film and in all promotional documents, the statement: "This film received support from the Workshop QUAND L'IDÉE DEVIENT UN FILM (QIDEF)"
  • To file a DVD at the headquarters of "QIDEF", any use of commercial exploitation of the copy being excluded.
7. GENERAL

The Committee of the "QIDEF" Organization reserves the right to take any decision on matters not provided for in this regulation. The Organizing Committee has full discretion--for reasons of a serious nature--to cancel, delay, shorten or interrupt the course of the workshop, without recourse.

Applications for participation in the Workshop "QIDEF" implies unconditional acceptance of these rules.
